Epic Adventuring Ahead!

Good Afternoon peeps!

Today I have some minor news. It's not something that will be useful to my readers here but still good news for me!

My mom grabbed me a registered code of yWriter. For those of you unaware of yWriter, it's a free program created by a gentleman by the name of Simon Haynes, who happens to be both an author and programmer. He wrote the program to help him organize his first book and then decided to allow people to freely use it. I've been using this program for a number of years now and I love it. First, you create a Chapter and then you put individual scenes within it. At the bottom of the scenes, it shows you your typing speed, your word count, how many words you've added that day, etcetera. There are many features of the program that you have access to. It's not the sort of program that will restrict what you can do if you aren't registered so don't worry about that. I know that many people use scrivener but I found this first and it suits my needs. Plus, it helps that when you aren't yet published to have a free program (as scrivener is a paid program. That's not to say it isn't good either. I've seen what that program can do!) Should you be curious, you can find it here: http://www.spacejock.com/yWriter5.html

As it turns out, I read through the tutorial recently and discovered the dictionary feature. (Because I was a newb and didn't try to install the dictionary before - assuming that I had to find the thing manually. I never did my spelling/grammar checks in the program. I would instead copy/paste scenes into a word document and do the spell check there. True story!

Recently I joined a couple more writing groups online and have had a blast. Writers are crazy people. Don't let anyone fool you... I also found out that one of the mods for a place I frequent on twitch is also writing a novel! Apparently her and I are the same person XD So now I'm following her blog page. That was an exciting new development the other day.

In other news, today there is no Co-optional podcast *sad face*. Instead I'll be editing and job hunting, the latter being the thing I dread doing, but it must be done. Yes that's right, I'd rather edit than job hunt. What kind of masochist am I?! *cackles*

We are August which means Dreamhack is coming up. My plan is to still go, I just have to get my tickets and what not. Then in September we have Can*Con, a convention for speculative arts and literature. There are some amazing guests this year! If you happen to be in Ottawa between September 9-11, you should come along! Here's the link: http://can-con.org/cc/

That's all I have for now peeps! Enjoy your week!

Susan.
